Rise early and venture into the cool, misty landscapes of Horton Plains National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable highland wilderness areas. Set at an elevation of around 2,000 metres, the plateau is characterised by rolling grasslands, cloud forests, crystal-clear streams and striking mountain scenery. Follow the well-established trail through the park towards the dramatic World’s End, where the landscape falls away into a spectacular escarpment offering sweeping views across the surrounding valleys and lowlands on clear days. Continue through the cloud forest to Baker’s Falls, where water cascades through a lush natural setting before completing the circular trail. The early morning start not only offers cooler trekking conditions but also provides the best chance of enjoying the viewpoints before cloud and mist settle over the plateau.
